Laurence O’Toole has been a Consultant Cardiologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield since April 2001.  He qualified from the University of Sheffield in 1989 and trained in General Medicine and Cardiology in Sheffield and Edinburgh as well as completing a Medical Doctorate in 2000.

Dr O’Toole has strong commitment to heart failure medicine and is involved in the continuing development of Sheffield heart failure services as well as having a large NHS practice in this field.  He undertook a period of sabbatical training in adult congenital heart disease in 2006 and runs a monthly congenital heart clinic at STH.  He has been the lead cardiologist for echocardiography in Sheffield since 2003.  He runs the joint cardiac-obstetric clinic at Jessop Hospital for Women with Professor Channer.  Through his links with Western Park Hospital, Dr O’Toole has developed an interest in cardiac complications of cancer therapies.
